Hi,
I have just had my 307 fail it's Controlle Technique ( French MOT) on the left side headlamp too weak to test.
I have taken the car home and checked the lights and sure enough the left one is dim. I removed the bulb only to notice that it had gone black around the sides although it was still working.

Really strange, I have never seen that before, usually when they have gone black the bulb has blown. Changed the bulb and all is OK.

Also failed on the engine management light being on due to an EGR fault although it did not fail on pollution levels. He said to just turn off the light and he will pass it. In France it is now an automatic fail if the light is on whatever the reason.

So back again this afternoon for my pass and hopefully another 2 years motoring.

Bulbs can go black inside if it was not correctly filled with gas at manufacture.

No gas or leak and bulb burns out, underfilled or some oxygen present causes tungsten from the filament to be deposited on the inside of the glass
