Check the top of the stud on the old ball joint to see if there's a female hex key hole to keep the stud still whilst slackening the nut.
If not, you'll need a good pair of mole grips or a nut splitter.
The nuts can be a pain to get off if they're rusted and corroded, it's down to luck. Plenty of WD40 or PlusGas will definitely help, a hammer and maybe a blow torch are useful back ups.
I have just found this 'new' arm on ebay and looking at the part i need to change this is bolted on and not riveted on as previously stated in this thread, has anyone got a definitive answer on this please.
The replacement ball joint comes with bolts/nuts, you only need to cut/grind/drill off the rivets to remove the old joint then bolt the new one in place... provided of course you do not damage the arm itself when removing the rivets...
I prefer to drill the rivets as this normally does not damage the arm in any way.
I cant make out what you are getting in the 'new' arm pics..
The arms have three plain holes. The ball joints are only riveted on from the factory.
You have two choices, drill or grind out the rivets and fit a new ball joint with the nuts and bolts provided.
OR, buy a complete arm with the ball joint already bolted on.Its less hassle and the arm comes with nice new bushes.
Ok gonna fit this part just wondering once the rivets are drilled out do the bolts have a specific torque to be tightened upto or just as tight as poos with some thread lock possibly ??
Cheers for all the help guys
