Default Power Steering Issue

Anyone had any issues with the power steering on their Expert? I've got a 2008 van and have had no signs of any issues with the steering until the other day when it just stopped working.

I've taken the van to my local garage and they've had a look and cant see anything obvious wrong. They have plugged it into the diagnostic computer but they can't see anything, they're a Renault dealer so maybe it's to do with the software?

Just wondering if anyone has had an issue with it, will try and get it to another garage to plug it in and see if they can see anything.

When it happened to me, it was the electric pump that had failed. It threw up a message on the screen though. 5 years ago it was 500 for a new one.

Thanks for that. I had a feeling that it might be the pump just thought it was strange that I got no fault message or any noise from it prior to it failing. I've managed to get it booked in for Thursday so we'll see what that throws up

So had a phone call last night from the garage to say they'd traces the fault to the power steering pump which would be 540 Plus fitting. The van got picked up tonight and the power steering is working again! The first garage said there was no loose cables but sounds to me like there must be something, is there anything in the pump itself that could cause this?? Or am I going to have to just admit I need a new pump!

Think these pumps are a sealed unit and can only be overhauled by specialists. I just had to bite the bullet and pay up as time was of the essence. It's located inside the nearside front wheel arch just behind the foglamp. A bit fiddly but can be done DIY. Only took an hour or so. The one I got was plug and play so no need for anything to be re-programmed

Hope someone can help, does the bumper need to be removed to remove the power steering unit or just the arch liner
Thanks

You can do it with just the wheel arch liner removed. IIRC there's one bolt that's awkward to get back in , think it's the one on top of the pump, it comes out ok but it's a bugger to get started on the thread again, just watch you don't knacker the thread.
Good luck
