Unhappy newbie help please please!!

hello guys, i have a peugeot expert 2002 1.9 diesel (dw8 i think), ( non turbo ) the van was fine when i bought although tank was near empty, all good untill two weeks later, a loud knocking noise (diesel knock ive been told) that seemed to come and go,was advised to try redex, cured the problem for a few days now its constant, terrible in the mornings starting up, been told a few things that may be the problem, faulty injector? but if this was the case how come some days it would run spot on and then go back to being noisey? ( no expert on injectors lol ) was also told advance solanoid which is the one everyone keeps saying is the likely problem, i can not locate this on the engine and have no idea what area to be looking, looked for hours online for any info and diagrams but nothing, could anyone tell me where its located or if anyone has any ideas on what it could be and any ideas to resolve the issue, i'd be really gratefull, really been considering selling it but its a great little van and i'd be loosing money which i can't afford to do at the moment and need the vehicle for work....

thanks guys

carl

Welcome to the Peugeot Forum. I'm thinking the 1.9 is the older mechanical injection albeit electronic controlled in which case the solenoid will be on the fuel pump. There is a reference to it here 1.9 DW8 suddenly sounding like a vintage Tractor! this is the Citroen Berlingo forum but same engine. It is a possibility and is most likely the fault but also a faulty injector could have a sticking pintle that will cause the same problem although you would expect it to be more constant with an injector but not always. I would start by checking the solenoid valve as in the linked article. I used to have a Cavalier TD that had the same problem and that was an injector, strangely enough when I had the injectors renozled I got the old nozles back and couldn't see a problem with them. If the injectors are of the screw in type be careful not to cross thread them when you screw them back in.

Question found and removed

found it, just under the front of pump with a rubber case over it, has a fuel line and a wire with a clip going to it, removed it but the local parts place say they cannot get the part only the whole pump, can any one post up a link of the right one as there are a few coming up online but none say they fit an expert only belingos, 306 etc, the body of the solanoid is 27mm

thanks again

carl

See if it has a make and part number on it, failing that there should be a part number on the pump which you can use to find out what solenoid valve is fitted, you could send the details via email and try these UK Diesel Parts - Spare Car Parts at trade prices online They should be able to supply the solenoid valve on its own.
