Default expert not turning over

Hi all

Hope someone can help with a starting problem.

I went to start my 2008 expert 2.0hdi this morning and had it accidently in gear.

The van gave a small chug (has happened before) and I put it out of gear and went to restart.

This time the ignition and dash lights came on as normal but when the key is turned to starting position nothing happens!

I push the van and gave it a bump start and it runs ok, but when stopped there is no response on key start.

Anyone any idea if there is a specific relay for the starter and if so where it is located?

I plugged a code reader in and got this reading-

P1198 $07E8 Manufacturer control

I suspected a fuse or relay but have checked all fuses and they seem ok.

Anyone any ideas?

Default crank

Does the starter turn when you attempt to crank if I may ask?

If the starter doesn't turn over, there is no reason to suspect anything else other than the starter itself as it is wired directly to the battery. This means that even if anything else goes wrong, still the starter should turn over the engine.

thanks for the replies.

the started doesn't turn over at all.

I checked the fuses under the bonnet and they seem ok. Will check again to make sure though.

I thought there might be a relay that was linked to the starter. I will see if I can get a multi meter on to the starter to see if there is power going to it or not.

any other suggestions?

If its not even clicking its the fuse under the bonnet there is a relay but its inside that fusebox and non servicable the fuse protects it.

Thanks reliable406 you were right.

I missed a fuse at the top of the box and that was the one that was blown.
