Default Engine Codes

My engine in my Expert developed a problem. Its the 1.6 hdi with the engine code 9HU.
We thought it was a problem with the head / head gasket but its with the block itself with one off the piston liner's at the top blowing through to a water way.
So basically looking for another engine or just the bottom end (Block half).
Now my engine code is 9HU, but somebody has said the 9HZ bare engine will fit too. Is this right?
What is the main difference between the codes and what about 9HV and any others out there?

Can anybody help? Cheers

All the 1.6 hdi engines are essentialy the same the different codes are to do with final fitment but if your expert is 2012 onwards i belive there are more differences between them and earlier models

It is also called A DV6 but its the same all peugeot engines have a chassis code ie 9hz and a full manufacturers code IE DV6ATED4 the 4 meaning it is the 16 valve version so any 9hz will fit

If you do buy a replacement just make sure it is the correct type as there are also 8 valve versions and some people dont know the difference !
