Default EGR Valve issue

Hi
I'm new to this forum, so hello. I hope this is posted in the right place.

Basically we have a 2011 boxer 2.2 and the engine management light came on and there was a strange noise coming from the egr valve it sounded like someone sawing, so took the egr valve off gave it a good clean but it is still doing it. Thinking of blanking the egr valve. But i have seen on the internet mixed things saying it's a good thing to do and some saying it is a bad thing to do. Just wondering what other people think.
thanks for reading
Sorry for this being so long

Please use the search box, the EGR valve is one of the most talked about things on here. There's no point in repeating ourselves when the topic has been covered extensively - repair, replacement, cleaning and blanking.

Thank you for your reply,
Sorry for asking so many questions,
but could you please tell me what the ecu software update does?
And how much that would cost?
Thank You

It puts newer software on your car's computer, often fixing issues which have occurred out of a test environment.

Contact you local dealer for pricing.
