Default 1999 2l petrol Boxer based motorhome randomly cutting out when driving

Hello, new to this, my boxer based MH has started to cut out when driving along, the engine management light comes on and I lose power. When I pull over and stop it doesn't start straight away but after a couple of minutes it will start up and run for a little while then it will happen again... I have been advised it might be the egr valve, if so where is this located? Could it be something else?
Thanks Mike
