Default Stone Chip Question

Hi All,

As I was washing Ruby yesterday, I noticed that she has some battle scars on the bonnet no doubt caused by stones hurtling at her on the motorway.

My last car, a 207 in Grey never got one stone chip in 5 years! (Although it did go through 3 windscreens due to stones). So I am wondering if this is just due to the paint quality used now? Or was I just extremely lucky with my last car.

Anyway, these looks quite bad, and I am wondering if this is something one could, or in fact should have a go at yourself before taking it to a specialist. I figure I have only had her a year, and if I pay a couple of hundred to have these fixed and they come back after a few months, this could get expensive.

Anyway, I have watched various videos online about stone repair, and it doesn't look too complicated, I'm not afraid to have a go myself, but was wondering if its a bad idea, if anyone has any tips / tricks, or if I should just leave this to professionals.

I have some pictures, from what i can see in one of these, the primer has gone as well, and there is bare steel visible?

So I just received my quote, and I think it is fair to say I will not be using these guys!

I feel like I had to upload this picture so people would believe me.

594!!! Who are they trying to kid. I think I could buy a new bonnet for that! I hope they call me to ask if I want to go ahead!

I think I will use this website, they do a full kit for 40. Ill just try it somewhere inconspicuous first.

do not forget the 3% processing charge if paid by credit card lol...are they being funny for a small chip.

when i had a small mark to cover...i found the paint colour and got a spray can from halfords, it covered the chip and tried to keep inside the line, of course if you look close you will notice slight different of colour but hay oh...it will do...and I still have most of can left when it happens again...but all depends how good of the job is needed.

I couldn't believe that price when I read it. I had to read it a couple of times.

Surely people wouldn't pay that price would they??

If they ring me to ask about the quote, I'm going to tell them they are taking the p##s quoting that much.

I am going to do it myself, will post the results here afterwards.

Likely wont be until after the end of the month, as I am heading to Cornwall again.

Probably the insurance companies would.

Have been in a similar situation to you recently and I got quotes from 7 different companies, some locals and other nationals and the prices were stupid. Cheapest was 150 for a single stone chip.

I have now ordered the touch of paint from a main dealer and will see how I go with that.
