Default 307 SW roof bar repaint

Hello all,

I have found this picture in the internet but my situation is exactly the same. I want to repaint these parts myself. I have never done such job before but there is always a first time. Could you please guide me? The corners of the bar seem plastic but I have no idea about the bar itself. Is it also plastic?

Can anybody tell me what products I need and how to apply them?

The main bars are metal, the end caps i think are thin alluminium (but they might be plastic)

they are origonally painted in hyper silver "argentum silver to be exact", this is a very expensive paint and (made by sikkens) and you have to use a proff spray gun and products to paint it correctly.

to paint that colour you must first sand down the bars, and then wet sand them to a perfect! smooth surface "use 2000 grit"

then you have to paint them black (gloss black will give the best result)
then leavve them for 24 hours for the paint to cure properly, then you can use the hyper silver (super thin, its like spraying water) then the clear coat and polish...

Hyper silver is a very very very hard paint t spray with a good result....

it would be 1/3 of the price to go and get a paint shop to do it.

OR.... you could just use a normal silver paint, much much cheaper, and no need for a black base coat, but by the state of yours you need to use a primer first.....

if you do it with hyper silver i would guess it will cost you at least 150-200 pounds !!!!
If you do it with a normall paint then about 20 pounds would do it !!

1, remove the bars or mask of the whole car.
2, sand with 240 paper
3, sand wiith 2000 wet and dry (make sure you do this good or the end result will be crap!)
3, paint 2/3 thin layers of primer
4, sand down wet and dry again
5, clean with pre-wipe
6, paint 2 or # layers of silver
7, 2 smooth clear coats
8, wet sand 3000 grit
9, polish
10, sit and admire your work

you must do this in a dust free area, TOTALLY DUST FREE, NOT OUTSIDE !!!

think you are up for that?

And before you ask, i have a spray paint company, a spray for a living, so i know

Thank you very much for your detailed answer.

I did appreciate it.

I found it a bit tough job to do myself. I am living in Belgium. I will go and talk to a spray paint shop.

Thanks again.
