Default Indicators turning headlights on

Hi, New boy here. We have an '03 2.0HDi 807 that we have had for 9 years. Generally it has served us well without any real major drama (other than the DPF). My wife loves the car so we are not yet ready to get rid of it yet either. We just had the DPF removed and the car remapped as it was causing us no end of difficulty with regneration so I figured it was worth just getting shot of it.

Anyway, we also have another problem to resolve and I hope someone can assist: For about 6 months the headlights seem to sometimes come on on their own, and it seems to be the case that it coincides with operation of the indicator. Not every time, just sometimes when the indicators are turned on, the headlights turn on then go off after about 20 seconds. Reading a bit about similar problems with other peugeots seems to suggest that it may be the com unit. Is this likely? If so am I correct to say that this is the unit behind the steering wheel with the stalks etc.

If anyone has any advice I would appreciate it. Particularly in respect of removal of airbag and steering wheel (if that is required) as I can't figure out how to remove the airbag.

BTW I am a competent, reasonably well equipped home mechanic and I am reasonably familiar with Peugeots having had quite a few over the last 20+ years. I've just never had to remove a steering wheel with airbag.

BTW if you frequent any other Peugeot forum then you may see an identical post on the Peugeot central forum. It is not my intent to spam the forums, or to test them all, I just tried there first and got no answer. Since the demise of the Eurovan forum I am a little lost for where best to go for intelligent discussion and queries.

You need a Com unit. They give savage trouble on all peugeots and citroens.

Thanks David, much appreciated. Confirms my suspicions anyway.

Now just to work out how to get the steering wheel off.

I had this on a 307. I just cleaned out the base of the stalk with compressed air and then sprayed electrical contact cleaner. Never had a problem after that.
