Default Head gasket @ 35000miles

Hi... we have a 58 reg 807 diesel with 35k miles

Yesterday I noticed the engine sounded louder, got home a mile later and thought I saw steam come from the front drivers side and when I stopped the car there was the hissing/whooshing noise. So opened up the bonnet and the expansion tank is correctly filled but I could see scum (fresh) round the top of the tank.

Its my dads car and he is on holiday, I told him what had happened and have parked the car up and nicked another car as i certain its the head gasket (about to go?)...he doesnt think I am right that its the head gasket because its such low miles (I have had 2 previous head gaskets need repair but both were high mileage...and the symptoms were the same) Also just to add I had to move it to park the car up and when i turned the engine off again it was definitely hissing/whooshing

The temp gauge wasn't up and there's oil in it (but saying that when my old megane head gasket went the temp didn't go up until it had actually started to steam loads, so maybe the temp doesnt give it away?)

So was just wondering if anyone had any experience of head gaskets going at such low mileage (is it not unusual to happen?)

Thanks for your time

Lisa

all the symptoms sound like HG to me, identical to when my old 405's went - I'd say it was pretty unusual but I guess it depends on how the vehicles been treated. was your dad the first owner? does he like to rag it around on the redline all the time??

My dad is not going to be happy! Least he cant blame me, I've only had it a week and done about 50 miles!
