Default Drum behind in cab fuse box?

Hi, can anyone tell me what the black drum is behind the n/s footwell fuse box please? It seems to be held together by spring clips, there is a whistling noise coming from it and its beginning to drive me mad . Thanks for any help.

Not difficult to dismantle once the glovebox is removed. You will probably find the pollen filter has been removed from the large black duct just behind the top of the bonnet on the right alowing leaves through. Doubt if the fan is defective ours still runs OK despite 195K. Check the rear blower (if fitted by the bottom hinge of the front door, you can turn them off and on the AC panel.
