Default 806 HDi - rear brake hubs stuck on

Hi Folks

I want to service my 806 HDi rear brakes.
However try as I might - I cannot get the drums off.
Whacked it, heated it, oiled it, swore at it - but no use.
The hub turns OK so the handbrake is not stuck on.
The manual says:
Difficult to remove brake drums can be freed by inserting a small cylindrical drift, or a small screwdriver, to push the handbrake adjusting lever away from the brake shoe.
I've tried this, but I'm not certain I have it right.

What is the secret?

Thanks
C.T.

This is what happens when the back brakes are not serviced correctly ie removal of the lip of the drum with an angle grinder.
Did you loosen the handbrake cables.

Hi David - thanks for the quick reply.

No I have not slackened the handbrake cable - but the drum rotates freely with the hand brake lever off. So I assumed that was slack enough.

Even though the drum spins freely, do I need to slacken the cable more?

Slacken the cable right off. You'll just have to beat the drum off to be honest.
