Default Rear Lights not working after fixing bad earth fault

I need to try and sort this when I get home from work tonight.

Fixed the poor earth fault my creating a new earth wire from the rear light unit to the original earth point, removed the old burned out earth cable from the connector and plugged it back in.

This resulted in faulty side light warning (both sidelights are fine)

To rectify this I reinserted the original burnt out earth cable back into the connector and plugged it back in again.

This resulted in my brake lights / rear stop lamps not working at all. Indicator still works and I presume reverse light still works. Rear lights work fine on the other side.

Could this be a fuse? It's unlikely that the rear bulbs have all blown at the same time isn't it?

(Just to point out I have the aftermarket LED rear lights however I've never had any problems with LEDs and I was having the rear stop lamp fault even with my old original units)
