Default Part Numbers for Engine Cooling Fan

Can anyone please help me, I am pulling my hair out over my engine fan. My fan went and so did my fusebox apparently, this is according to my mechanic. I managed to get a replacement from a scrap yard but it was the wrong one for my car seen as it had A/C.
No worries, just sent the part back and they sent an identical one to my car down instead when fitted, it seemed to spin on power but the control unit on the fan was dead. Could it the case that it is actually working and I need to match part numbers exactly for my car?

I don't know what the part number is on the replacement one but I know the number to my own one, P9656849780 is what is says on the fan, would it be ok if I bought one with the part number of 9653302780 make much difference, they are almost identical?

Thanks for your help guys! Hope I can find an answer that helps me.

FFS which engine?

For a 2.0 138 ServiceBox lists the following parts for the fan:

160W:
* 1253N8 RP 1253T3 until 11054
* 1253L6 RP 1253T3 from 11055 until 11984
* 1254R9 from 11985

150W:
* 1253N5 until 10919
* 1253L5 RP 1253T2 from 10920 to 12009
* 1253R8 from 12010

The 5 digit numbers are dates expressed in days since 1976-10-08 and is printed on the sticker on your A-pillar with the tyre specification. It will be written as a 7 digit number where the last two digits are the factory code which is CJ for Rennes for the 407.

You are correct that the long number that begins with a 9 is the part number, but unfortunately these are not given in ServiceBox and nobody seems to know how to convert between the two.

Sorry, thought I had put the car information in. It is a 1.6 HDI saloon 2006 reg.

I haven't got any idea really how it all works, its just my mechanic hasn't really been useful for me. (Can't really take the car away as there aren't many in my area to go to).

So if I get the 7 digit number from the car, could that help me find more than just 1 compatible fan for my car or am I stuck to just part number on my fan?

Thanks for your patience but its all new to me.

OK then, for 1.6 HDi we have:

1253N5 until 11054 (2017-01-13)
1253L5 RP 1254T2 from 11055 until 12099 (2009-11-23)
1253R8 from 12010

So, if you take the code for the right year for your car and put it into Google then you'll be able to find matching replacement parts and, if you're lucky, then you'll be able to find the corresponding part number.

Ok so I got a photo from my car, just to be 100% sure even if it's obvious, I have to find fans with the 1253N5 number? I've looked and seen plenty if them around brand new.

Thanks again for your help, it's been so good!
