Default P0340 code. Not starting. 2.0hdi. Fixed

Hi all. I will try to be brief...
My 406 (140,000 miles) died in traffic. Wouldn't start. Got towed home.
Niod light test ok, loads of fuel at filter. Fires on easy-start squirt.
PP2000 has lots of codes, main concern is intermittant crank/cam sync out.
Tried new cam sensor (had spare, easy try) no luck.
P0340 code, live parameters show weird rpm at cranking, 300 bar on rail but no cam/crank sync.
Worried that I've slipped a cam belt tooth or worse.
Found crank sensor, (remove air box, buried tight against bell housing).
10mm ratchet spanner helped, very fiddly.
Sensor body cracked, coil and magnet hanging out.
New one fitted, all good.
Moral of story - just because PP2000 doesn't tell you crank sensor is faulty (p0335), don't assume it's not.
3 hours of life lost.
Wonder what price main dealer would have charged?

This is why i always go for live data over codes not every part will throw a code people think the computer sees every fault.

I had an expert van here a few weeks ago similar to yours cut out non start auto spark said ecu feked i had it going in 10 mins with proper diagnostics it was the crank sensor had fell to bits !

Thing is, if the internals of the sensor are still good, even if it is out of place the ecu will still see the sensor as being perfectly serviceable even though it is incapable of doing it's job. Had the coil been damaged it likely would have shown the relevant code. But as you say - just because the diagnostics don't show it as faulty - it may well be.
