Default Handbrake too tight 407 2006

Hi everyone.

I just replaced the rear brake pads, and found out that the handbrake went loose. After reading here and there, I found the auto adjust mechanism button near the handbrake lever and pressed it. Now the handbrake is too tight that it can't be pulled and it's locking the wheel. Any idea how to loosen it up? Thank you very much.

Did you wind the calipers all the way back in?

Also are the levers on the calipers moving freely as these need to be fully back to allow the caliper to self adjust the cables/lever should not have needed adjustment if the calipers were working properly.

Thanks for all the answer. I managed to solve the issues.
Yes the caliper was wound back.

I managed to loosen the handbrake lever by removing the console panel, and pull the rachet mechanism upwards (the opposite direction of where it goes if the yellow cap pin is pressed). After it went loose, I pull the lever halfway and pressed the pin again to trigger to self adjust mechanism. Not sure if this is the best way to do it, but now it is okay.

Thanks again.
