Default Good independent 407 mechanic sought in Berkshire

Can anybody help? I purchased a 407 1.6 HDI in 2010 with 178k miles on the clock. Within a short space of time I had to have the engine and turbo replaced. Still the car is suffering from a lack of turbo boost, with the turbo being covered in soot after an intermediate journey. The car has had a new FAP filter fitted. My local Peugeot garage says the only solution is to take out the engine etc, and inspect the injectors, perform compression tests and look at the timing (this conclusion was after 17 hours of investigatory work!).
Can anybody recommend a good independent mechanic in the Berkshire area who would be interested in undertaking this?

Hi

I can't recommend an independent mechanic but if you ever need your fault codes read I have Peugeot Planet.

I'm based just outside of Didcot, Oxfordshire and work in Newbury.

Cheers,
Mike

Is the outside covered in soot?
That suggests one of the pipes isn't done up tightly/correctly, which would also explain the lack of boost. We had this problem on our 307.

If the turbo on the 407 1.6HDi is in the same place as on the 307 1.6HDi, it should be pretty easy to check the pipes are done up properly.

Soot on the turbo is a common 1.6HDi problem and generally not anything to worry about. The 1.6 isnt exactly a racer either so are you sure its actually down on power and not just naturally slow?

Just had a 307 that had soot all over the turbo and when you press the gas you get a face full of fumes it was the dpf to turbo clamp which wasn't fitted correctly and leaking i thought they were a stupid design on the mini and metro and istill think they are!
