Default Clonk noise from engine

Hi all.

Turned on the car this morning and it made a BAD knocking/clonk noise while idling. Goes away as soon as I touch the accelerator. It pulls fine and sounds fine while driving, but the knocking/clonk noise comes back under braking. It will stop when the car stops. It makes a similar sound when turning hard at low speed. I tried to go down the street and start braking, and while braking I turned the car off while still moving. Knocking stopped as soon as the engine turned off, so it is not from the brakes, suspensions or wheel mounts.
It makes the sound every time I turn the car on now. In those few seconds before it hits normal idle speed.
Any ides what that could be? I am thinking Engine mounts or something. It just pretty much happened from one day to the next.

Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Regards,
Christian

My car is a 2006 407 SW 2.2 hdi

Upper/lower engine stabilisers, crank dampener pulley failed, aux belt tensioner failed or even timing belt slapping around inside the cover.... difficult to guess without hearing what type of noise it is.

Hi WillNZ

Thank you for your thoughts.
I am trying to have a better look at it today.
Will update on the findings.
