Default Boot lid 0 button

Hi guys, Sorry to be a pain but just wanted some advice. My 407 Zenith saloon has a problem in that the boot doesn't open with the '0' but it works fine with the keyfob. I have taken the boot button out and wd40'd it and I can't see that there's that many moving parts to go wrong. The wires under the boot trim look ok too. I've gone into menu also to make sure the permanent boot locking option is not selected. Any ideas? Can these boot switches look ok but still fail?
Any help would be much appreciated.

Broken wire/wires in the rubber boot on the left hand side where wires enter cabin, common fault

You were spot on, thanks for your help. Bit of a pig to get the rubber off and then I just ran a short new length of wire through the rubber pipe with a small terminal at either end.

Working '0' now. Thanks.
