Default 407 wipers permanent intermittent

Made the fatal mistake of fitting HID lamps to the 407 and within a month the wipers circuitry was fried. It can only be one of two faults - either the 8 legged chips on the PCB's inside the wiper motor cases, or the BSI unit under the steering wheel. I more or less am certain its the wiper motors so have bought two S/H working units from a breaker. Then I heard nightmare stories about the difficulties of changing the motors and as I don't really have the time nor the facilities at home to do this myself, I thought I'd get a backstreet mechanic to put them on for me. He told me its a job for the main dealers, cos the motors have to be re-synchronised to the car and he hasn't got the equipment to do that. Does anyone know if this is the case? I cant imagine what it would cost at a main agents - they certainly would insist on fitting new motors for a start - then there's their hourly rate to consider. It could end up costing me more than the cars worth!

I have checked the replacement procedure in Servicebox and it does not look to be very complicated........

What I would be inclined to do would be to disconnect the plug from the existing motors (leaving them in-situ) and plug in the new motors and see if they work. This would confirm where your problem lies, motors or BSI.

WRT to the requirement to re-configure the motors to the vehicle, this statement is in red at the bottom of the replacement procedure.

URGENT : Following the replacement of one or more wiper motors, it is compulsory to carry out a configuration using the diagnostic equipment (Configuration of the type of vehicle and of the driving side) .

If the motors you have are out of an identical vehicle, they may well work without configuration. I do not know if Diagbox will perform this reconfiguration, if I have the time later I will see on my 407sw if this feature exists in Diagbox.

Configuration is ONLY needed if the items are NEW you are telling the cars BSI what to do its because the 407 has 2 motors and 1 has to be master other slave so it must know what side of road the driver is on.

used DO NOT need a computer to fit garage is wrong but thats not unusual !

HID's typically need around 25000 volts to start the bulb, if the ballast isn't properly made, i.e using the correct spark gaps in it's circuitry, as the BSI uses the voltage lines to sense if the bulb is working or not, the ballast could dump 25kv into the system. The BSI was never designed to handle such high voltages, any protection it has will be easily overcome. Did the HID's actually fail or are those still working?

There has to be a way to trick the car.. Maybe better ballast's ?
More expensive HID pack ? I'm planning on buying a kit that costs around 75 euros.

75 euro is very cheap when you consider a SINGLE genuine Xenon bulb from Osram / Phillips is ~100euro!

You aren't tricking the car, it's simple electronics. At the end of the day, it's your money and you take your chance. Best way would be to retrofit the OEM headlamps with xenons built in.

That option cost 250 euros just for headlights, also you need another loom, and bsm most likely. And at the end that cost really alot.
I was planing to do so.. Still am, but xenon kits are the ones that i'm considering to put on my car.. Cheapest kit is 20 euros so i think that 75 is totally fine price for a kit, genuine xenon is different story.
