Default 407 2.0 HDI SE - Engine Temp

Hi I took this car (09 plate) for a test drive and I noticed that the engine temp increased to 2 notches above 90 which I presume is 110C (this is approx half way on the scale). Every car I have every driven has reached 90C and then stayed there for the whole journey.

I have asked the dealer and they say that it passed the MOT and that the mechanic thinks it's all fine, but just slightly sceptical as I dont want to buy a car that could overheat and potentially have engine damage as a result.

Any help or advice would be welcome

2 litre HDIs are not prone to overheating run it up to temp and open the coolant cap it should have a little pressure but not fire anything out.

IF there is a lot of pressure and water bubbles out walk away !

Are the fans on when it gets to 110? My 58 2.0 HDI (BTED4), sits around 80-85 however different engines / cars will have different running temps. You've said that yours is a 2009, I wonder if you have the CTED4 as those were introduced around 2009.

The mechanic removed the coolant hose, refilled and advised me to keep an eye on the coolant level. Drove to the MOT place, the fans were on, temp was hovering around 100c, opened the bonnet and the coolant reservoir was empty. Took another 1.5 litre approx to top up, there must have been an airlock somewhere.

As soon as I did that, temps dropped and fans switched off. So check your coolant level when it gets to that temp.
