Default 2004 407 2.0 HDi - Compression Noise

I recently had my 407 2.0 hdi serviced, however since the oil was changed, the start up engine noise has got worse. Now that it's cold, the noise is even worse. This noise is the typical diesel engine sound caused by the compression and burning of fuel in the engine, however, I can't help but be alarmed by the instant change in sound since the oil was changed.

Could my mechanic have used the wrong oil? Why would the start up rattle be even louder when it's very cold out?

Once up and running, the engine seems fine.....
Any thoughts?

What oil did he use. Total quartz INEO 5w30 is what he should have used for your info.
Although an oil change shouldn't make the noises you describe. Go back to him with it.

I'm going back this week for a timing belt change, so will ask him. Usually he's spot on with oil. Perhaps this is just the cold weather. But what a clatter!!
