Default 2.0 HDI Running Problems

Hi,
I've got a 407 estate with a 2.0 HDI engine.

A few weeks back it started running sluggishly/ lack of power.

I took it to my local garage that said they thought it was an injector problem.

The injectors were removed and sent off to be checked. Everything seemed fine so they were cleaned and set up returned to the garage and put back in the car.

The car would not start!!!!!!!!!!!

The local garage sent the car to Peugeot who said the ECU is locked and we can't unlock adding you need a new one so that we can continue with further diagnostics

The local garage took the car back and said they tried another ECU and BSI unit but it still will not start

Any advice please?

Hi..welcome to the forum..sorry to hear about this problem...I would sugest the car is returned home and someone with 'planet' can diagnose the issue you have...could be something as simple as an imobiliser fault....where abouts are you?

2007.. 407swgt...2018..3008 1.6 thp gt line auto...owned most models since 1985...phew..

BOTH garages are wrong the ecu even if locked CAN BE READ i think they are telling you porkies as any peugeot garage knows this too !!

IF the ecu is locked its not getting a signal from the BSI and this may be because the key codes are lost from the BSI

If the garage fitted another ecu set using YOUR clocks they have probably now messed up your mileage too !!

You NEED someone who knows what they are doing.

Can the BSI unit be re-coded to the existing key?

Where do I find someone that knows what they're doing - hopefully near the south coast - any recommendations?

Smells fishy to me. Replacing injectors isn't anything to do with the computer.

It really needs PP2K/Diagbox on it to find out:
* faults related to the original problem, and
* faults related to the new non-start problem.

You're probably going to have to fix the non-start before you can get back to fixing the original problem

to find someone close by. (Where has Kelvin Gingermagic from Bournemouth gone? He knows his stuff.) I'm occasionally in Newbury but not very often or reliably at the moment.

On the non-start: When you put the key in the ignition the aerial around the ignition barrel reads the chip in the key and sends the result to the BSI. If the key is paired to the BSI then the BSI unlocks the engine ECU which allows starting.

If something goes wrong reading the key, or if the key isn't paired to the BSI then you'll get an immobiliser warning and an orange light on the dash that shows a key going into a square.

In PP2K/diagbox in parameter measurements:
* in COM2000 (controls under the steering wheel) IIRC there is something about reding the key.
* In the BSI there are screens to do with reading and recognising the key, and
* the engine ECU will tell you whether or not it's unlocked (authorised to start)

The ECU and the BSI both know the secret 4 letter code, but they won't tell you what it is. This is why you have to swap the ECU and BSI as a pair: if you mix them up then their 4 letter codes mismatch and therefore the ECU won't accept the BSI's instruction to unlock. However, you can type your 4 letter code into PP2K/Diagbox and it will tell you whether it matches the one in the BSI, i.e., whether you've got the right one.

The keys are paired to the BSI. PP2K walks you through this process. You need the secret 4 letter code (and it must be the one in the BSI).

Once a key has been paired to a BSI it cannot then be paired to an other BSI.

I have witnessed most of these various combinations of not working on a 207 where we had two ECUs, two BSI, and three keys. It started once we'd figured out which ECU-BSI-key-FourLetterCode combination was the right one.

How do you know what the 4 letter code is.

Is it written down/recorded somewhere vehicle docs/service book or somewhere on the car?

Due to Christmas etc. I've still got this car sat on the drive not starting.

Is it worth sending the ECU away to be checked?

There's a large number of companies that came up from a Google search saying they can test and repair ECU's.

Does anyone have experience of this or can they recommend somewhere?

You will probably have to go to a dealer with proof of ownership and more than likely a small fee to get this

Not really very rarely is it the ECU thats faulty unless water has got into it or maybe badly jump started (ie 24v of a lorry or reversed polarity)
Wiring issue is more likely
