Bought a 406 -04 estate not long ago. Happened to come across a very heavy rain the very next day. The day after that I noticed that my rear footwells were filled with water. (Probably the same reason why the undersides of the rear seats were rusty).
Talked to previous owner who then mentioned that he had had problems with water coming through the rear doors. I then saw that he had tried to seal the inner panel to the door with silicone. What I saw mostly as an attempt to fix the symptom and not the cause.
I dismantled the interior panel and tried to pour water on the window and saw that it ran straight into the inside of the inner panel. This will then have the consequence that it flows out between the inner panel and door, and can then run into the car. I may think it is a little peculiar construction, but I probably know what to fix anyway. I want the water to stay inside the door so it can run out from the drain holes.
This is my fix:
Part 1 explains the removal of the inner panel.
Part 2 contains the actual fix.
Required for engagement:
Approximately 1-2 hours
Flat screwdriver (or something similar)
Gently just remove the trim around the door handle using a flat screwdriver.
Gently pull up the button for the power window.
(If you have manually powered windows the window handle somehow have to be removed. Usually there is a pin between the handle and the inner panel that should be drawn out. And then the handle can be drawn of the splines it is mounted on).
It is these metal things that has to be pressed in to undo the button.
Remove the contact by pressing on this lever.
Simply remove this plug to access the first T20 screw.
The second T20 is located underneath the door handle.
Pull the inner panel out from the bottom first.
Then lift the top.
Remove the cable to the door lamp and the panel can be removed.
Pull out the cable ties.
Remove the inner plastic.
Lift and remove the inner window trim.
First we need to notice this castor. This we must take into account later.
A proper sized plastic is taped up. (I have used a building plastic who is age resistant).
Trim down the platstic.
(Donīt have to be any exact dimension, just see to that it covers all the holes in the door).
Cut out a piece of plastic on the top (approx. 60-70mm from top of door) to get past the castor to the power window (shown earlier).
(The plastic donīt have to be as far out to the right as this I experienced later when mounting the plastic. It should be enough to cover the hole).
I unscrewed this 10mm bolt to place the plastic behind it.
Then just place the plastic between the inner plate and the window rail.
A notch has to be cut out to clear the wire to the window.
Now no water will hit the motor to the power window
The top can advantageously stand out further than this.
Lock plastic by squeezing down the window trim.
Put back the 10mm bolt

My 406 did this on the passenger side. She also had the famous leaky rear light seals.
The naughty thing.
Not a Peugeot, but a Toyota GT86.

Could you please email the pictures of the "fix" to my adress [email protected] if you still have them. Have a major leak myself on both rear doors. The water gathers underneath the door at centre and flows into the car making a big pool of water on the floor.
