Default Oil Temp Sensor Not Working

Hello Everyone,
Recently bought a 2002 406 with 2.0L engine. Car starts ok but will not run when engine is warm. Also, the oil temp gauge is not working. I suspect the oil temp sensor is bad. Can anybody confirm a bad oil temp sensor would cause this symptom? And where is the oil temp sensor?
Thanks for all responses!

Normally oil temp has no effect on hot or cold starting

Oil temp sensor is not wired into ecu it goes directly to dash so would have no affect on running.

The sender is down near the oil filter OR on the back there are various layouts on these engines i would concentrate on getting it running right first
assume nothing check everything twice !!
