Default Lazy 2.0 petrol Auto. What to do?

Hi All,

My brother has a 406 -97 2.0 petrol auto which is a lot more lazy than expected and drinks more fuel than I think is normal. Any good ideas on where to start? Oil + filter and air filter is pretty new. Spark plugs are not old either.

If you have recently changed your timing belt, check your timing marks. Even one teeth off the mark has a significant effect in your engine's performance.

Hook it to Peugeot Planet and check the parameter measurements.

Read live data for these sensors:

Map sensor
O2 sensor (upstream)
TPS (throttle position sensor)
ATS (air temperature sensor)
CTS (coolant temperature sensor)

Also check your ignition dwell times for all cylinders + injectors' pulse widths

To make sure your engine is mechanically sound, do a compression test on all 4 cylinders (dry & wet).

I'd do a compression test to start with just to establish how good the engine internals are.
Don't forget to squirt a little oil in and do a second test. A significant rise in pressures indicates the rings are worn.
