Default blown turbo

More problems, I'm afraid!
The turbo on my '97 2.1 tdi has blown (I'm fairly sure) but the Haynes manual says take the engine out to replace/repair it! That seems a bit drastic to me. I'm hoping to find either a repair kit or a replacement turbo (once I can id the turbo itself!) but if I have to remove the engine, I may just call it a day as the fuel pump is also still leaking so the problems build! It has 300k klms on the clock so it may be that it's had its day...
Any thoughts on any of these, my latest woes?
