Default 406 immobilized

On saturday i filled my car with fuel came out and it refused to start!

Came up on the computer as immobilized, checked the big red reset button and it didnt click so i changed it for another which is now clicking but to no avail..

When im cranking the car over it keeps the light on in the dash like a key? assuming its the immobilizer light

Car is a 00 reg hdi 406, am really starting to get annoyed at it at this stage
any ideas welcome

Hi & welcome,

An orange light showing a key going into a square is indeed the immobiliser.

Is the big red button the fuel cut off, at the rear left hand side of the engine bay? I've never heard of any problems with these.

The most likely problem is the aerial around the ignition barrel that reads the chip in the key, but it would need a diagnostic session to be certain of this.

Note that there are (at least) two different aerials.
They're about £15 on eBay.
