After trying to start the car, turn the ignition off but leave the key in the ignition and open the drivers door. If the car beeps then the key is being recognised but I suspect that it won't beep which indicates the keys will need to be reprogrammed to the car.

Many members have dealer level diagnostics kit and will be able to do this for a few beer tokens as long as you have the pin code. If you don't have the pin code then these are obtainable from the internet or our very own trustme may be able to help out.

It's very common for the aerial around the ignition barrel that reads the key to fail. Quick and easy to replace.

Default 406 hdi imoboliser fault

Thanks for the replys peeps regarding imob fault ....but still no joy ...ive had both keys checked and they fine .tried all possible fixes i can attempt and read off the forums ..even taken up the carpets to check the wiring and earth connectors...just when i do attempt to start the car headlights are stuck on and wipers and imob light ..but can't use electric windows or radio so at a guess its going to be some water damaged electric shortage ...

i had them check transponder were submitting its code.took it to a shop that recodes keys and he said the keys ok plus ive never used the plip key as it never worked since purchase always used the keys manually not checked the coil around the steering tho ..which submits code it to ecu as im told ..im thinking its a electrical fault or ecu corrupt ..but im no car expert due to age of car im trying to spend a little as possible so attempting all fixes i can manage myself.. im going to get a auto sparky to diagnose a fault as im thinking its a shortage ... hopefully after that i can move forward thanks guys

Yes thats what i thought you would say that does not really help you much as the keys rarely fail in that way what is actually wrong is the CAR has lost its codes so does not recognise the keys !

Did you try what storeman posted further back in the thread as this is how you know if its a key problem or not.
