Default Running Temperature

Hi all,

Peugeot 308 1.6 HDI 2016

What is the running temperature as my gauge shows just under 80,

Also I have noticed that it takes a long time to reach 80,

Daily trip:

Morning outside temp 4 deg,
Travel 1.5 miles to motorway on b road,
Can feel slight heat,
Travel 15 miles at 70mph on motorway,
outside temp shows 6 deg,
Heater setting on the very lowest on manual,
Can feel some heat but not a lot,
Temp gauge still not reached 80, shows just over 70,
Travel another 12 miles on A roads,
Only then does it seem to reach just under 80,
Total time driving is 40 minutes.
If I put the fan on the gauge drops,

Also noticed if I am parked with fan on low the gauge drops to about 70,

I do remember that it used to reach 80 after only doing 3 miles on the motorway with 4-6 deg outside.

Could this be the thermostat stuck open ?

If so is it an easy job to change, and where is it located ?

Thanks for reading.

Yes sounds like a failed thermostat its a complete unit that's bolted to the gearbox end of the engine not to difficult to change

Mine runs at 80 all the time too, but it does get up to that in about 3 miles, even in winter.

Not going to be a cheap replacement.

Having just looked on Ebay, I would be worried about getting the right part. Several different pictures claiming to be the thermostat for the 1.6 blue HDi.

I think Peugeot call it an Outlet Tank.

UPDATE:

After speaking to someone on the phone they said that they could book it in under warranty, but if nothing was found I would be charged for a diagnostics test.

Well they had it for a day and said that they could not find anything wrong.

So I went and picked it up and for some reason since that day the gauge had read correctly, reaching 70 deg within 3 miles and running temp by 6-8 miles.

It also stays at temp while in traffic.

Happy now and my mpg has gone back up.

So what ever they done worked, just wish they had said they found something, as they didn't even charge me for the diagnostics.

Happy driver again.

It is annoying when you don't know, but at least it's working properly now.
