Default Bad smell

A couple a month ago I started to experience a some kind of bad smell inside my 1.6 BlueHDi SW. It's occur occasionally, every now and then, sometimes even 2 or 3 times in 10 days. When I say bad, I mean it. Actually, no. I'm wrong. This is really bad smell. At the beginning I believed it is something from outside, but after a few attacks I realised that is not correct. After a half a minute it disappear.
Anybody with similar problem?

This could be coming from the Air Conditioning due to a build-up of bacteria. You can buy an aerosol can of AirCon cleaner which you place on the floor of the car, start the engine with full AirCon turned on and trigger the can then leave until finished, that should do the trick. Oh, and change the pollen filter as well.

Yeah, are you sure it's not coming from air condition? If it is, you could try some disinfection products and hope for the best. Also, change the filter.

I never was able to solve bad smell on my previous car, even after taking the dash out and cleaning everything.

Aircon system needs a good clean along with the pollen filter.

Take it to Air con specialist to clean with some antibacterial spray. I spray mine with Febreze occasionally. I found mine was smelling the other day of some pine or something else. It was some tree droppings in my air intake that had fallen below windscreen when I was parked under a tree...so check that is clear too.

Thanks guys for replies. Somehow, I don't think A/C is reason. I know how smell can be from A/C. However, in my old Scenic (one of 27 cars I owned till now), 8 years and 180kkm - never happened. Filter changed every year at every service. Hmm, now when I think it about, guy at the garage said that pollen filter not changed because it is not need to, no matter I asked to put the new one. Funny things, this started to happen just after service. I thought that something died under the seats, ugh
OK, I'll try with new pollen filter. I always ask for one with active coal.

Did you upset the guy who did the service? Maybe he put a dead rat in there instead of a filter.

How often is the aircon used?

Is it used all the time?

Or is it only used when it's hot outside?

Sinisha, if you're going to replace the pollen filter, you might as well use the can of spray as mooi1uk suggested. It's a cheap and fast thing, but it can clean AC ducts if they're not too far gone. I do it myself once per year and it seems to be working.

I say this because it's better to do without the filter in the system, so if you're changing it yourself you might do it. It only takes 15 minutes.

I must admit I use it only in summer, when it's hot outside. Only use it in winter if there's rain so my windows start fogging up.
Also during summer, I switch it off 2 minutes before arriving at destination, just so that the evaporator dries, seems 2 minutes is enough.

During other months (outside summer) I try to remember to turn the AC on at least once a month for 10 minutes or so, just to "get the juices flowing".
