Question What happens during a battery change?

I have a 2012 Peugeot 308 semi-automatic.

I think the battery needs changing.

Is it just a case of swapping them out?

Or is a laptop/device needed to 'configure' the car after the new one is dropped in?

No configuration is needed when changing a battery. You will have to reset the time and date and a few other things afterwards but you won't lose the radio code as it's coded to the VIN of the car. No laptop required.

I have an Android-based head unit so I can't change the time anyway.

Cheers for letting me know
