Ive had similar problem with my 53 plate 307 2.0hdi. Checked it today noise was from the crank pulley eventhough no visible signs of anything wrong with it. I thought at first it was from top end of engine until i looked at it today with wheel arch liner removed.

I think the bearings in the tensioner pulley get very noisy. It was a common issue on the 306.

Common noise on the 1.6hdi. Its from dust. Put a new belt on and it'll be the same in no time. Its not damaging anything.

Now this is based on what you're explaining and what I've said is no way a definite without me looking and listening to it.

Default Peugeot 206 ticking noise from belt when cold

Getting a ticking noise from one of the belts when I start the car up it gets quicker as I go faster but disappears after 8/10 mins

Mechanic had a look at both belts and thinks there ok ?

Thinks I'm better of leaving it as car is 2000 ( 59k miles )

But I'd rather sort if if not to expensive

Thoughts ?
