Default Tailgate catch on SW

I need to adjust the catch as I have to slam the tailgate down very hard to get it to catch properly. On checking the lop bolted to the sill is actually loose, so needs tightening. Problem is I can't see how to remove the plastic cover across the sill. There are two plastic inserts either end which pop out leaving some spring mechanism under. How are they released? Anyone know?

Usually the loop part is bolted down to the body with 2 bolts these are under the plastic trim you need to pull the plastic trim off the other bits are just centralising buffers with spring loading to stop it squeeking

Got the plastic trim off, no bolts or screw heads to be seen. Must look closer.

Are you sure the tailgate is aligned correctly, look at the panel gaps when shut

Tailgate is fine, catch is very loose, that's the bit that's not right.

How old is your car - it should be under warranty

It is. But a 5 minute fix by me is far more convenient than booking the car in, taking it to dealer 3 miles away, leaving it there, getting home by train and going back at the end of the day to collect it.

If you cant see boltheads anywhere it could be the catch is welded in place and no adjustment is possible if thats the case it will need to go back !!

Its unlikely but anything is possible they do like to make things difficult nowadays

Confusion, I can see the bolts holding the catch but can't release the fixings which hold the plastic cover, they are a sprung metal catch of some sort.
Can't get a torx driver onto the bolts without removing the plastic trim across the sill.

Managed it in the end, as I said, 5 minute fix eventually.
Remove the little plastic inserts, then with some needle nose pliers or similar squeeze together the spring for and aft, then lift plastic trim. The spring steel clip locks into a rectangular hole in the body. There are also plastic locking bits as you normally get on plastic trim which have to be just pulled out.
The plastic inserts also hold the spring out so it can't become detached.
