Question Should 308 USB port charge phones?

I bought a Peugeot 308 (2012) two weeks ago.

I immediately replaced the factory head unit with my own.

I then discovered the USB port in the box between the driver and passenger seats.

I've noticed plugging a phone into it doesn't charge the phone.

Is the USB port only for listening to music with the factory head unit?

On most models the USB port is connected directly to the head unit. The head unit then supplies power to USB port. Changing the head unit has most likely disconnected the USB port from any power source

I have some spare USB ports in the back of my new head unit.

Is it a type of a connector that can plug into those or is it wired into the loom that's designed only for the stock head unit?

I am sure its hard wired into one of the Aux ports via ISO plug on the OEM head unit

Yeah, I'm thinking it's no longer available when using a non-factory head unit :/
