Default Oil Pressure Warning Light on?

Car 2010 pug 308 1.6 hdi diesel.

A bit of background first. A few months ago warning came on and stayed on. Engine was noisy. Found excessive sludge in sump. New gauze pick up, plus new turbo feed pipe, engine flush new oil etc. All good for 5,000 miles.

Now, getting occasional warning again, but ONLY when the car slow down to stop / idle. When move off the warning goes off. Does not do it every time, and can have several journeys with no warning. Engine sounds fine.

Thoughts please.

You need to get the oil pressure checked with a pressure gauge first, once you know that is fine and not the cause of the warning light at least you know the engine is not at risk of damage. Then it's checking the oil pressure sensor and wiring, good luck

ok thanks for replies.

It had the oil pressure switch replaced, but has made no difference. It is going for a pressure test end of week.

What about the oil pump? Could that be the likely cause? Is this a difficult item to replace?

If after the oil pressure test has been done and it is confirmed oil pressure is below the minimum then yes it could be the pump or a blockage or excessive engine wear, I'm sure the garage will be able to advise you further after the results of the pressure check.

Is the oil pump A big job? Approx how many hours would it take and approx. cost?

Also, if low pressure is confirmed, how can any technician establish if a replacement oil pump would fix it, and a excessive worn engine?

you say in first post warning came on and engine was noisy, thats your answer, you have damaged the engine and there will be excessive wear meaning the pump cant build up any pressure so putting the light on when at tick over and thus not spinning as fast. engine will need a rebuild
