Default Mpg display

Is there a sensor that takes a reading for the mpg? Just wondering as my mpg is all over the place. One minute it'll stick to around 30 to 40. Then it'll just go up and up, over 100. At one point it even jumped to 999! Somehow I don't think my 308 is that economical

you'll be looking at the instant MPG readout there, you want to scroll through the other menus and find the average one, it will be much more stable

Is that the second one along? On the dash there's a little car, then number 1 and number 2. I did have my fingers crossed that my car was doing 999.9mpg

999.9 is when you are on the overrun engine ecu cuts fuel on overrun until it hits idle speed hence instant consumption calculations sees car moving but not using fuel hence 999.99 mpg

I thought something was wrong with the car, as the mpg was all over the show. I was doing about 25 to 30, as I was driving through the town.
