Default Identify the part and its function

Hi,

2011, 308, 1.6 petrol, SW model.

Could anyone assist, what is the small black plastic box located just in front of the rear left wheel and what goes on inside there? Its protected by a small heat shield which has come loose on several occasions now and is at the moment held up by tape.

Thanks.

Is this inside the car, in the boot, or under the car, or in the wheel arch, or in the rear passenger area?

It is underneath the car, in front of the rear nearside wheel and near to the exhaust. There are some plastic flexible pipes going to and from the box but i can't see where these go. The box itself is very light.

Further to my last, its more precisely under where rear passengers would sit and next to what l think is the fuel tank. In better light l may try and get a picture tomorrow.
