After changing oil in 2008 1.6 HDi 110, I now have a high pitched whine that coincides with rapid increase to rpm.

The noise raises in pitch the higher the revs and lowers in pitch as the revs drop.

Noise is present which car is stationary so not related to drive train or gearbox(?).

It's previously had same oil (bought two at same time) 5w40.

Could this be related to the age of the oil? I have more new oil bought last week and put this bottle in to clean system and was intending to do the next change in a couple of days. (I have not used any flushing agent).

I suspect that either the oil despite being sealed has somehow deteriorated or that when changing, some 'stuff' has dislodged and is now blocking something somewhere (oil pump?).

I intend on getting 2 x oil filter and replacing oil again tomorrow evening without running the car.

I don't particularly fancy removing the sump and various engine bits if this can be resolved by a second, third or fourth, oil change. I have 12 litres of new oil to go at, which are all aimed at bringing the 103K mile engine up to a cleaner standard based on advice from Peugeot tech as had injector issue around 500 miles (6 months) ago. Car has been SORNed since February.

Did you change the Air Filter as well?

Perhaps you have disturbed an air intake/air pipe when you did the oil change...I cant see it being anything to do with the oil..( you did put the sump plug back in ?)

Literally all I did yesterday was drive about 20 miles, came home, jacked it up on the passenger side, stuck an axel stand under so I don't damage my self, dropped the oil, sump plug back in, lowered the car and put new oil in.

The oil that went in was 5w40 that had been sat in my garage for at least a year, however it was unopened and also sealed in a plactic heat sealed bag.

It literally the only thing I did with it yesterday, didn't touch air pipes or anything. That said, I will end up touching air pipes this evening to get at the filter, but not as far back as the air box.

I have been driving it with no noise, jacked it, drained it, filled it. Then noise. Totally unexpected, but totally night and day the difference.

Nope, dipstick is in. Thinking might check o-rings on disptick and filler cap.

Good idea, and check that the dipstick tube hasn't worked loose.

In the light of day, the noise turns out to be smoke escaping from somewhere. Facing the engine bay, it's from the right hand side. Cannot pin point exactly where from, however it's in the region of the fuel filter, air ducts etc.

Carried out another oil change this evening, including filter. While I was at it, I checked the turbo, which appears to be in very good condition.

What seals/gaskets might be on that side of the engine that would see smoke appearing? I'm guessing having given it some thought, it could be the EGR? That was replaced less than 50 miles ago, maybe it's worked loose.

Any ideas of what to look at would be appreciated.

Noise is most apparent under sharp press of the accelerator and under engine breaking when changing down gears, however not particulartly noticeable if gentle to reach speed and gentle to slow down.

I’m thinking turbo or intercooler hoses.

How do you know your turbo was in good condition? Did you remove the air intake and feel for play on the impeller? There should be no in out movement and a little sideways movement; not so much to touch the sides.

I’m inclined to check the hoses between the turbo and intercooler, and air intake manifold. Is there a little hole, or hose clamp loose.

I’d stop wasting good oil, it won’t be that.

Are you using the correct spec, low SAPS, oil?
