Default Engine management light

Recently bought a Peugeot 308 1.6 vti. The yellow/orange engine management light appears with the ignition in the second position, and remains for a couple of seconds after starting the engine. The car seems to drive fine, with no loss in power or sounding rough. I'm used to a diesel engine car, so maybe it's not apparent if it is running badly, even though the engine idling is lovely and quiet. Connected a fairly cheap obd reader to it and it threw up no codes. Any ideas as to what it can be?

this is completely normal

as long as the EML doesnt stay on longer than ~5 seconds after starting the engine then all good, its just checking the memory

So I only have to worry if it stays on longer than five seconds after starting the engine? It's perfectly fine with the light staying on with the ignition at the second position? I apologise for sounding like a novice, but I'm just used to a diesel ford focus

Worry if it's on all the time or it's on all the time and flashing, other than that sit back and enjoy the car.
