Default Directional dipped/main beam bulb replacement

Hello. I am the owner of a 308 Sport Diesal 1.6. 2010 reg.I would like to consider myself a responsible car owner thats respects the need to maintain a vehicle, would support a trusted garage/mechanic without being taken for a ride, hence joining the forum. My apologies if I ask seemingly daft questions. One of the main beam bulbs has failed. I have found out that the bulb to be replaced is an xenon D1S-35W,which the handbook states MUST be replaced by a Peugeot dealer. The car is under warranty, the bulb is not a part covered by the warranty. The bulbs are very expensive, around the 90 mark. I know cars are expensive, full stop, but would like to know if I have to use the Peugeot dealer. Would using a VAT registered garage to replace the bulb affect the warranty? Could The expensive Xenon bulb be replaced with any other appropriate bulb that does not carry the risk of electrocution as warned?

Can use any VAT registered garage as long as they use OEM parts and it will not affect any warranty. You cannot use any other standard 12 Xenon bulb it must be same type HID bulb.

They only advise dealer fit due to high voltages. As long as ignition and headlights are off there is no more danger than a normal bulb you could purchase bulb of same brand from most motor factors/ebay and fit yourself if possible and warranty will still be valid if fitted correctly.

Default Alls well that ends well.

Thanks for the helpful reply Windy. Took the car to a Peugeot Dealer to ensure it was a simple bulb failure. They were amazed I had been told I needed an xenon bulb. I ended up with the correct halogen bulb for 10. I obviously went back to Halfords to complain about their hasty and incorrect decision as to which bulb I needed.
