Default Carbon cleaning

Hi all,

I have a 308 1.6 sport on a 58 plate and i'm having a lot of smoke everytime i pull away from lights or sat in traffic. I was thinking of getting the engine carbon cleaned( terraclean) has anyone every had this done and would it help?

Last year it failed MOT on emmisions and they got it to pass using the engine clean stuff u pour in with your petrol. I dont want to be having issues come september when MOT is due again.

I would not think it will make much difference. You need to get codes and live data read etc to see what is happening.

It could be a lot of possible faults which may not trigger light from coolant sensor through to carbon build up on back of valves or timing issues dependent on engine

You could simply use something like Redex or Millers for the next 3 or 4 tanks full of fuel to see if that helps. One of the major supermarkets regularly have the Redex on offer but even if they don't its only a couple of bottles. A few tanks of fuel with the cleaner in should clear the top end out enough. If it doesn't then it's something else causing the smoke. Either way, the advice to get a diagnostic done would be a good starting point.
