Default broken cam caps on vti sport

After 4 months of driving the car broke down and after couple of garages looking at the car they put it down to oil starvation but after being in a position to have it re looked at by a trusted mechanic when he removed the rocker turns out that 3 out of the 4 cam caps had broken and lifted the can to the point it struck the position sensor anyone had this problem if so what did you do or was it a fairly simple fix

Normally the only reason cam caps get smashed is when the timing belt fails or jumps leading to vales being hit by the pistons and pushing the camshaft up but this is generally a diesel thing the petrols tend to bend valves as the valves are angled

There's no visible damage to the rockers to indicate this and the timing chain seems fine but the inlet can did get a hot spot around no2 cylinder

The only thing with the starvation is that it's on blued 2 lobes on the inlet cam and the exhaust cam is completely fine
