Default 308SW Risk of filter clogging

Just had this warning come up. I've just had the carbon filter changed, am I right in thinking that I just need to run it through?
Also, my Eco on/off doesn't always work, sometimes the Eco symbol just flashes and the engine keeps running. Any ideas?
Many thanks.

I take it that it's the Diesel Particulate Filter you are referring to.

If so; the DPF can sometimes be cleared with a nice long run up the motorway at around 40+mph (50 miles should do it).

If it is to far gone then it will need cleaning by a specialist firm or your dealer. All at a cost.

You can buy kits to do it but they are not as thorough as a professional clean. It's not a job I would fancy doing!!

Diesel cars are not designed for constant short journeys. they need a good run once a month to get the engine and DPF up to temperature and burn off the clogged filter.

If the light stays on then see your dealer and flinch when he gives you the price.

The ECO system works according to the battery condition or the amount of drain on the system such as lights, air-con etc.

It is quite common for it to keep the engine running when you come to a halt. You can read more in your hand book regarding this system.

Thanks for the replies.
It's a 2012 1.6 diesel.

If you have just had the particle filter changed, did the dealer tell the ECU that it had been changed? If not then the ECU will be confused.

However you might be able to improve things. Drive on a motorway for about 5 miles in a lower gear, such that the rpm is at least 4000. This will trigger a regen of the filter.

I took the filter off our car and washed it through with boiling water (poured in through the outlet pipe). Worked fine after that.
