Default 308CC 2010 door handle sensor, would it affect the alarm?

The door handle sensor in my 2010 308CC seems to have failed (the one that drops the window slightly so it passes the top seal easily). Initially the window was dropping and rising on its own, used to stop when you reached a certain speed. Now it has stopped altogether; the window drops when you actually open the door though, but not when you put your hand behind the handle. It still works on the passenger side. About that time the alarm started going off on its own too, not sure if these are connected. For now I am locking with the key (no alarm) and it's been fine.

I believe the interior door card has to come off to get to the connector and release the component. I wondered ...

Has anyone come across this before and are they different driver to passenger side? Was going to swap them around and see if it's the sensor that's failed before ordering a replacement.

Many thanks
