Default 308 1.6 VTI Noisy!

Hi guys n gals,

Newbie here.....iv just purchased a Pug 308 1.6 VTi SE, 38k on the lock, FSH however only one key and a scratch on the n/s passenger door. But it was a good price......

Really happy with the car, cant fault it to be honest, one thing I have questioned though is why its so loud under the bonnet when putting the foot down. I know the exhaust isnt blowing and its definatley coming from under the bonnet.

I cant actually locate the engine air filter per say, from what I have seen there is a cabin air filter and pollen filter. I have taken the air box off but it sounds completely empty to me.

Can you advise?

Thanks

Pollen & cabin filter are one and the same. No experience with the 1.6vti emngine but the air filter could be at the back of the engine. Peugeot designers have some strange liking to stick it in the most inaccessible place they can. Some engines do have the air filter at the front but on my 308 the 'box' at the front is just a baffle which I think is designed to help prevent water getting into the air intake.

That makes sense since its french lol, the air "box" seems like its just random air ducts inside with no filter, I did notice the cover just up behind the engine cover so thats where the filter would be I think.

So There is a pollen/cabin filter which is the same thing, then a air box and air filter for the engine and then the oil and fuel filter......?

I don't suppose you know how to take the battery cover off? iv took the mini fuse panel off the top of the battery but cant seem to get the cover off to reveal the neg terminal.

I drove 3 of these 1.6 models before choosing mine. They all sound a bit rorty under acceleration. I think.it is normal.

Ah fair enough then, I have taken the air box off after the resonator pipe and its much quieter, im thinking of sticking a basic mesh filter on the end of the resonator pipe, after all it still has its main panel filter which iv just changed. What ya think?
