Default 308 1.6 sport shudder/ hunting on startup

My wife's 2007 308 1600cc sport (petrol 16v non turbo mini engine) shudders/ hunts/ acts like it's going to stall on first startup.

Within 10 seconds and maybe a couple of blips of the throttle pedal it settles down.

The car drives fine, idles fine, and has no warning lights on. Once warm it'll re start fine with no strange symptoms.

If it ran badly i'd suspect the lambda probe, but once it's running it's fine.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance,

Is the software up to date in the ECU? That's an obvious and cheap starting point.

PS - that engine saw service in the 207 two years before the MINI, so it's morally best described as a 207 engine.
