Default Steering fluid type ?

307. 2002. 2.0. Electric power steering pump

Can someone tell me what fluid to use, I need to fill a pump after a pipe came off. the man at the garage says standard transmission/ ps fluid is ok but I seem to remember reading you cannot use this but I cannot find a definitive answer now. I have loads of standard ps oil. thanks

Thanks for fast reply. Total fluid is not common, in fact I have never seen it where I live and dealer is 70 km away, is there a compatible common fluid, I do not know much about this subject. the oil that came out was clear, maybe slightly reddish. I have loads of fluid that has Dexron IID on it, any use ?
Thanks

It is special fluid BUT how special it is compared to normal ATF I do not know

All I can tell you is I put normal ATF in 1 of our taxis 2 years ago after we had a burst pipe and it still worked fine still does.

Bit like the fluid in the gearboxes its special too

Same with the DPF FLUID its special too

Autoglass even have some special resin
